Methods of Research in Social Psychology (Psy 583).
This goal of this course is to introduce students to "Engaged Scholarship." Much of the course is inspired by work by Andrew H. Van de Ven. I encourage students to begin by defining a problem they wish to address and seek out multiple views on the problem in order to gain a variety of insights and to increase the likelihood that the research done will be of use and interest to those who are impacted by the problem. While qualitative and quantitative research are viable methods for addressing the problem, the focuses of research in this course is on quantitative research, typical of that conducted by social and environmental/conservation psychologists.
